Tonight, the tributes to Michael Jackson continue. But the practice of honoring the fallen King of Pop has emerged as an all-out ratings war between Fox and NBC.
This evening, Fox will rebroadcast the Michael Jackson-themed episode of American Idol, which originally aired in March of this year and featured Adam Lambert performing “Black or White,” Danny Gokey singing “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” and Kris Allen’s rendition of “Remember the Time.”
The re-run, which spans a full two hours, also showcases performances from other former Idol contenders, including Lil Rounds (”The Way You Make Me Feel”), Allison Iraheta (”Give in to Me”) and Anoop Desai (”Beat It”).
Opposite of Fox is NBC's rebroadcast of a special one-hour version of the 2003 documentary “Living with Michael Jackson.”
As you may recall, the documentary launched to fame Martin Bashir, who is now a “Dateline” correspondent. Bashir famously and sometimes caustically, prodded the King of Pop while offering the public an unprecedented study of Jackson’s life. The documentary would ultimately create indelible images of Jackson, such as the late star climbing a tree in his yard and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars within fifteen minutes during a "brisk" Las Vegas shopping spree.
The tributes begin tonight on Fox and NBC.
