Britney Spears finds herself on the receiving end of a vicious onslaught of attacks from critics bemoaning the pop star's lip-synching on her "Circus" tour while in Australia recently.
But amidst the legions of critics pummeling Britney Spears, a fellow celebrity friend and recording star is weighing in on the matter and offering support to the pop diva.
John Mayer, who is also currently in Australia plugging his new album, Tweeted his allegiance to Britney Spears over the weekend.
"If you're shocked that Britney was lip-syncing at her concert and want your money back," writes Mayer, "life may continue to be hard for you."
Mayer, a longtime Britney Spears supporter, is one of only a few standing by his friend.
In Australia, where Britney Spears lip-synched her way across the nation, fans are angry - particularly those who paid big bucks to see Spears in concert.
As a result of the harsh fallout, some politicians in Australia are seeking new laws that would mandate concert promoters to stipulate whether a concert will contain lip-synching.
Britney Spears' next concert in Australia will take place in Melbourne this Wednesday.
