AFI

The awards season just got more bizarre. At the 2008 Shorty Awards, held Feb. 11 in New York City, AFI bass player Hunter Burgan was voted best producer of content of 140 characters or less on Twitter in the music category.

The 2008 Shorty Awards was streamed live at shortyawards.com. It was hosted by CNN anchor Rick Sanchez and included special appearances from Shaquille O'Neal and MC Hammer.

In his suitably brief acceptance speech, 140-characters-or-less, of course, Burgan showed off his minimalist skills:

"Thanks 2 everyone who nominated/voted for me; my friends, fans & followers; readers of tranquilmammoth.com; & especially all the @AFI fans."

AFI recently held a contest at its website that drew 850 fans to audition for the opportunity to perform on the band’s eighth studio album, which is nearing completion and expected out later this year.
