On December 8, Jim Morrison would have celebrated his 65th birthday. In honor of the occasion, legendary West Hollywood hangout Barney’s Beanery, will host a celebratation attended by The Doors members Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger. The event will be broadcast live on L.A. rock station 95.5 KLOS. Absolutely coincidentally, of course, The Doors “ Live at The Matrix 1967," a two-CD set capturing a performance recorded in San Francisco over two nights in March ’67, was released this week. So, rather conveniently, the two Doors members can chat about that as well toasting their erstwhile bandmate. No doubt tales of the Bachanalian Morrison will be a highlight. Before the band became a mega ‘60s name, Morrison and Janis Joplin were regulars at Barney’s Beanery. Jim was famously barred from the dining establishment for allegedly urinating on the bar. Apparently, a memorial plaque to mark the exact place will be installed. Which is certainly enough to put us off our dinner.
Hot on the heels of Justin Timberlake's hilarious spoof as Beyonce’s backing dancer on “Saturday Night Live,” the former ‘N Sync star has united with Myspace Music for an exclusive premiere of "Follow My Lead," taken from Timberlake's "Justin and Friends" concert. The song is available for fans to listen online and for purchase as a download. Click: ka-ching! Proceeds from the song, however, will benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Ben Lee announced details for his seventh studio “The Rebirth of Venus” (February 10th, 2009) and word is, Lee’s in touch with his feminine side. The recording is dedicated to Venus, not the ladies razor, but the goddess of love and beauty. A portion of the proceeds from album sales will be donated to FINCA’s Village Banking program, which offers financial services to low-income women entrepreneurs. All well and good, but we’re not sure about the album’s cover. It re-creates Botticelli’s "Birth of Venus," but with Lee and fiancé, actress Ione Skye (aka Donovan's daughter), canoodling in the clamshell as his band mates flutter above. On a less fanciful note, the album includes guest appearances from Missy Higgins, Cary Brothers, and Patience Hodgson.
