Middle Tennessee football coach Rick Stockstill has made some tough decisions during his tenure in Murfreesboro, and often he has made the right call.

This time, however, it can be argued that he didn’t do enough to discipline a player. Eldred King, the Blue Raiders’ leading receiver last season with 51 catches for 598 yards, recently got suspended for the 2009 season.

King has been arrested three times since March 1 and has twice pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault charges. That should’ve been enough to justify King’s dismissal, but Stockstill felt otherwise.

Second chances are great, but he’s a multiple offender. It’s time to cut King loose and let players who want to excel off the field as well as on the field represent Middle Tennessee.

Incidents like this give the Blue Raiders a black eye and make Stockstill appear as though he’s not enough of a disciplinarian.
