Ambassador Dan Rooney sworn in by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

The Irish American Information Service reports that Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton swore in Dan Rooney as Ambassador to Ireland.

During the ceremony, Clinton emphasized the shared history of the United States and Ireland; she also highlighted the importance of the ongoing peace process in Northern Ireland.

Ambassador Rooney is the co-founder of the American Ireland Fund, owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and founder of the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature.

Irishtimes.com reports Ambassador Rooney's indication of an upcoming visit to Ireland by President Obama.
