Examiners from major cities across the country participated in Neighborhood Balls on Inauguration Day. Below is one Examiner's experience:
To celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama, Plough & the Stars hosted Citypaper's inaugural bash.
Starting at 6 pm, early arrivals found an organized staff, informative giveaways including small American flags, and seating. The restaurant's two massive screens (one for each level) displayed continual inauguration coverage.
Live music played inspiring songs and requests, such as Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop," which had been Democratic winner Bill Clinton's theme song during his inaugural victory.
Illuminated by the smiling faces of President Obama, Vice President Biden, and the Obama family, guests mingled, networked, and consumed beverages, many of which were offered at $3-$4 special rates for the evening.
Due to the large volume of attendees, the place quickly seemed short-staffed to anyone wanting to exit in a hurry, but most of the crowd clearly wished to mull around and mingle for an extended amount of time. An overall air of relief completed the atmosphere.
Exemplifying the pertience of Obama's win in this overwhelmingly liberal city, the Plough crowd included a diverse group of individuals intent on enjoying the taste of alcohol along with a relaxing nightcap to victory.
