Irish American Writers & Artists, Inc. will present Irish American author William Kennedy with the Inagural Eugene O'Neill Lifetime Achievement Award on October 16 in New York.

Registration for the event includes an informal cocktail reception and membership in IAW&A. The event costs nothing for present IAW&A members.

The date of October 16 was chosen because it is the birthday of legendary Irish American playwright Eugene O'Neill. O'Neill was a Nobel laureate in Literature known for works such as Strange Interludes and The Iceman Cometh. He was also a four-time Pulitzer winner.

William Kennedy, the award's first recipient, writes on the life of the Irish American Phelan family in novels such as Legs and Ironweed. Kennedy is also a Pulitzer winner.

Special guests will read from both authors' works, including actor/writer Malachy McCourt, writer/director John Patrick Stanley and actors Matt Dillon and Michael O'Keefe.

The cocktail reception takes place at 6 p.m. in the Manhattan Room at Rosie O'Grady's in New York. Registration is required.
