Although I have a lot of wigs, I have never worn them as a serious accessory.  They are fun to use to dress up, but will they ever be accepted as an everyday topper to an outfit? When you put on a wig, you feel transformed. You can become a flapper from the twenties or a hippie with an afro, or even just see how you would look with a different hair color or style. They let you live out your fantasies. The Pink Ladies in Grease discovered the beauty of wigs when they made fun of Sandy with a musical number. Despite my desire to disquise myself for a day, if I wore a wig out of the house, I would get a lot of strange looks.

However, as style.com has reported, wigs are becoming quite the common accessory with celebrities. From Britney’s infamous hot pink bobbed wig to Gwen Stefani’s platinum blond wig, wigs have been slowly infiltrating the fashion scene for a quite while now. Although the wigs you get at the drug store and the wigs celebrities are wearing vastly differ in quality, there is no doubt that they are becoming a trend. They have been seen on runways to project runway, magazine photo shoots to movie wardrobes, but rarely on the streets, except for maybe in Vegas. They are being branded as “the new extensions.” Will they ever become as universally accepted as extensions are now? Are they best left as costumes, or can they become as common an accessory as earings?  Would you ever wear a wig?
