Karen Mulder, former Victoria’s Secret model in the 90’s, was arrested today for threatening to kill her plastic surgeon. Apparently she desperately wanted a former procedure done on her redone, which the surgeon was unable to do. A detective said that Karen "began screaming and shouting about the operation and became extremely threatening. There were repeated calls to the female surgeon who was extremely scared."
Karen was quickly taken into custody this morning and is being kept in a cell in the eight arrondissement, the epicenter of Paris haute couture, which ironically is where she began her career after winning a modeling contest.
Karen had a very promising career before she retired in the early 2000’s. She booked jobs with Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and was a prominent face in the Victoria’s Secret catalogues. However, around the time she retired, she began making outlandish claims against policemen and politicians associated with the modeling industry, saying that she and other models had been used as their sex slaves. She also falsely accused Prince Albert of Monoco of raping her, reports the Daily Mail.
Due to these her claims, she was sent to a psychiatric hospital. She was treated for chronic depression as well as drug addictions left over from her modeling days. She would go on to overdose on pills in order to attempt suicide, but she did not succeed. She also declared that she never liked people taking her picture. According to the Daily Mail, she said in an interview earlier in her career:
‘From the beginning, I hated being photographed. For me, it was just an assumed role, and in the end, I didn't know who I really was as a person. Everybody was saying to me, "Hi, you're fantastic." But inside, I felt worse from day to day.’
Karen is facing charges of threatening behavior, but none the less is set to be released later today.
