The Dow keeps dropping, the layoffs keep coming, and the value of the dollar is the lowest it’s been in years. Yet, the highly optimistic and fashionable still crave shopping. I can’t help but to want new shoes, and necklaces, and soft springtime scarves, and….well you get the picture. So I set out to find something—anything—cute and within my budget. Here are my five favorite chic finds for under $100:
Yellow and gold plated ring (Forever 21 $4.80): I’ve really grown to like Forever 21’s accessories. With prices as low as $3 who wouldn’t? I bought this ring in yellow and in cream because it is so cute and so cheap. Then I started finding more and more little rings. Eventually I bought so many that they added up to a much heftier price tag. But the quantity to price ratio was definitely in my favor. If your budget is $10 for costume jewelry this is perfect. Just stop at two rings.
Black, white and purple maxi dress (H&M $24.90): I felt the need to tell the guy ringing up my purchase that I would normally never buy anything so ostentatious from H&M because “everyone and their mama” will have it. He told me that women are calling the dress the Versace look-alike. I gasped, appalled. Then I handed him my Visa and went on about my shopping. It’s sheer, it’s long and it’s gorgeous. A perfect for the beach find, I wasn’t giving it up. I also figured I could tailor mine shorter if I did start running into mamas with it on the street.
Silence and Noise black and white striped cardigan (Urban Outfitters $29 on sale): No buttons, no zippers, and no hooks makes this open sweater also perfect for the beach, which is where I wore it first. It has pockets, which I’m crazy about on sweaters and skirts, and short sleeves, which makes it great for layering.
Lulu Townsend faux leather clutch (DSW $39.99): Ever since I scored a pair of gold Givenchy sandals for only $150 at DSW it’s been one of my favorite places to buy shoes. But this was the first time I’d ever purchased a bag there. I definitely lusted over the colorful Betsy Johnson hobos and Fendi totes, I just never had the money to actually buy any of them. But when I spotted this gorgeous metallic charcoal oversized clutch, I had to stop lusting and step it up. I was surprised that it was so reasonably priced and didn’t hesitate to make it mine.
Electric blue suede 4 ¼” open toe stilettos (Zara Footwear Collection $99): I’m not one of those people that boasts about something being under a certain price when it’s really only the difference of a dollar. But I will here. Why? Because when I saw these shoes I knew I could not walk out of the store without them. The color, the suede, the design—I fell in love. I have stilettos in the same color but I rationalized that the open toe and cross-fringed design made them so different, I had to have them. And now I do!
