What’s as all-American as apple pie? It’s a parade down Main Street on July 4, of course!
The July 4 parade in Hutchinson, KS featured family fun for everyone, young and old. Kansas Astronaut Joe Engle who was in Hutchinson as a part of an event hosted by the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center served as Grand Marshal and led the march. A line of attractions followed highlighting local groups, businesses, and churches. Jerry Moran, US Congressman, rolled by seated in a 1927 Ford. The Hutchinson Municipal Band came by, complete with piccolo player. Members of the cast of the Crown Uptown’s production of Disney’s High School Musical strolled by waving and cheering. Katy Androski, a parent of multiples, walked by ready to hand out free books to the crowd as a part of the Hutchinson Public Library display. There were multiples of antique tractors, cars, and trucks, dozens of children waving, skating, riding bikes and horses, a space shuttle, and even a train (which actually created a break in the flow of displays as it moved through the intersection at 3rd and Main).
The parade began at 10 a.m. and finished around 11:30 a.m. A street sweeper zipping down Main Street served as the final float.
People say a picture is worth a thousand words so see a photo album of the parade here.
