Llanview mayoral candidate Victoria Banks informed the press and her challenger that she would not be able to participate in the final political debate set to take place on the eve of Election Day.
Viki’s son-in-law is suspect in two murders on family property, and one of her daughters is allegedly being stalked, though the Llanview Police Department has not been forthcoming about a specific suspect in that case.
Banks explained to her challenger, Dorian Cramer Lord, “I believe the voters know where I stand on all the key issues. Right now, I have to focus on my family.”
Lord accused Banks of playing the sympathy card to win last minute votes.
Viki Lord still maintains her belief that Dorian is “using” the issue of gay rights to get elected. If Dorian Lord is elected (and if she is actually a lesbian – all historical evidence to the contrary) she will be the first out gay married-to-her-partner mayor in the United States.
Dorian explained that she intended to use the final political debate to emphasize her stance on equal rights. “Yes, I believe it is the fundamental right of every human being to marry the person that they choose, and I wanted to drive that point home during this final debate.”
Viki believed that the mass same-sex marriage ceremony was intentionally set to take place prior to the debate because of that, and Dorian suspected Viki of backing out of the debate for that exact reason – the timing.
A personal shopper who was helping Dorian Lord prepare for her wedding heard Viki say to Dorian, “Not knowing whether you are the bride or the groom, you’ll forgive me if I save the best wishes or congratulations.” Needless to say, Banks did not attend the ceremony, which was held later in Angel Square and was officiated by Dorian’s ex-son-in-law, Reverend Andrew Carpenter. The historic ceremony was broadcast on news outlets internationally.
Before the ceremony began, the candidate announced, through the jeers of protestors, that, if elected, she planned to make the marriages that day legal, despite state laws.
I am Dorian Cramer Lord, running for mayor of this beautiful city of ours. And could it be a more beautiful day for us to have this historic ceremony? It is all right. Pay no attention to the protestors because they have every right to be here. And so do we. And no one can stop us from saying our vows. We are honored to have the Reverend Andrew Carpenter here from St. James Church so that he can say the ceremony that will wed us to each other in spirit, if not in the eyes of the law, because it’s not allowed yet. However, when I am elected mayor, my first official act is going to be to issue to each and every one of you a marriage license so that we can be wed not just in our hearts, but in the eyes of the law.”

The ceremony commenced, and after a couple of brief outbursts, mayoral candidate Dorian Lord and her fiancée/campaign manager, Amelia Bennett, along with several other couples, were symbolically married. Only the outcome of Election Day and Dorian Cramer Lord’s word will determine whether those marriages become legal.
