Lets say Governor Patrick's appointment  to the Massachusetts Health and Educational Facilities Authority was purely favoritism? So what? Boston, and by extension Massachusetts, thrives on patronage and graft. A major component of the busing riots in the 1970s was to protect the patronage system set up through the public school system. Its part of the very fabric of Massachusetts.

But lets say it wasn't. The Governor ran for office on a platform of improving education and healthcare. Its true that the Authority has been defunct for twelve years. However, no Governor has been concerned with health or education in more than twelve years, so it makes sense that Governor Patrick revive this government agency. Cellucci and Swift certainly never cared about health or education during their time in office. And Romney put that faulty, expensive Commonwealth Care (State Universal Health Care) in place so that he could improve his chances during his run for President. Too bad he didn't finish his campaign.

Governor Patrick needs this authority in place so that he can continue to do the work that he came to Beacon Hill to do. The opposition to Senator Marian Walsh's proposed salary was just a smoke screen for opposition to Governor Patrick. The very same voters who put him in office seeking change, now oppose every new policy he proposes. Its exhausting to watch Beacon Hill and Massachusetts voters shoot themselves in the foot over and over again, all to avoid supporting the Governor. This last forced resignation takes the cake.

I thought Massachusetts was ready for an African American Governor. I was mistaken.

Get angry and get involved!
