Senator Ted Kennedy, the senior senator from Massachusetts, was released from the Washington Hospital Center late this afternoon after collapsing at a post-inauguration luncheon yesterday. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in May 2008.
After the senator was rushed to the hospital, the luncheon continued. President Obama publicly wished the senator and his family well. The Senator attended the inauguration ceremonies earlier in the day. He walked on his own power to the dais, smiled and took pictures, before taking his seat with the other dignitaries. Senator Kennedy and many others in the powerful Kennedy clan supported Barack Obama during his campaign for president.
A spokesperson reported that the senator suffered a seizure brought on by fatigue. Senator Kennedy is at home resting, under doctor's orders. The doctors should keep a close eye on the senator. He doesn't like to lie still. Less than two weeks after his brain tumor diagnosis last year, he participated in the Figawi boat race on the Cape!
Here in Massachusetts, and all over the country, we wish Senator Ted the very best and a speedy recovery.
