The Marijuana Policy Project foundation has launched an ambitious new campaign aimed at easing California’s financial woes- by taxing and regulating the sale of that most nefarious of illicit substances, marijuana.
The campaign launched yesterday, with an advertisement airing on cable and broadcast television throughout much of California- long recognized as the most pot-friendly state in the Union.
At first glance, the MPP’s piece resembles the kind of earnest, impassioned dialogue you might expect to find in a major political campaign commercial. A genuine Californian medical marijuana consumer (a middle-aged woman, not a pot-addled twentysomething) extols the virtues of the state taxing marijuana. The ad suggests that the enormous cuts planned for various vital state services could be avoided via legalization.
This Examiner couldn’t agree more. In fact, why not go one step further?
Mr. President, it’s time you allowed the states of the Union to make up their own minds regarding the regulation of marijuana, an illegal ‘drug’ which has proven to be far more benevolent than alcohol and tobacco. Marijuana’s truly remarkable medicinal qualities cannot be denied. Can you say that for a can of Bud, or a Lucky Strike?
Democrats- now you have your senate majority, how’s about crafting a sensible and lasting solution to ail this nation’s gaping financial wounds?
It all comes down to two simple little words…
Legalize it.
Check out the MPP commercial below. It’s definitely a step in the right direction.
