Just days before the much-anticipated release of his comic adaptation, The Watchmen, news broke that writer/director Zack Snyder is in negotiations with the potential cast for his upcoming project, Sucker Punch.
Amanda Seyfried (Big Love, Mama Mia!) is rumored to topline the all-female fantasy flick about an institutionalized girl who, less than a week before her scheduled lobotomy, retreats into an imagined reality, ultimately divining her escape from her actual reality in the mental ward. Set in the 1950's, Snyder plans to accomplish the unlikely aesthetic convergence of a charming period piece, a gritty action flick with a Tarantino dose of ammunition and a dark, lush, fantasy film complete with dragons and brothels. As Snyder synopsizes, it's "'Alice in Wonderland' with machine guns." I have no idea what that means, but I am compelled to learn.
Snyder is also considering Vanessa Hudgens (of High School Musical fame), Abbie Cornish (Stop-Loss, Elizabeth:The Golden Age), Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen, The Wrestler) and Emma Stone (Superbad, The House Bunny) for the roles of Seyfried's cohorts.
