The Guild is best online sitcom about a generic MMORPG that I have ever seen. No, I'll go farther to say that it is the best sitcom about an MMORPG. Actually, I would say that it is the best online sitcom I've ever watched. Being about a fantasy-themed MMORPG is just a bonus.
I came across The Guild on accident, looking for a site on the game Guild Wars. This was a lucky find. The show is about a group of gamers, who play in a guild together, as the title suggests. One of the players oversteps the bounds of online play, and arrives at the real-life house of another player. This incident is big enough that it's time they meet in person, for the first time. Comedy ensues.
A character driven show, it is a funny portrayal of the different types of people that play online games. We're not just all men living in our parents' basement (especially as most Bay Area houses don't have basements). There is the guy on a budget, and this game is his only entertainment he can afford. The housewife who pens up her kids so she can concentrate on the game. Someone who can't take her eyes off of video games, even when away from the computer, and is not real friendly to the people she plays with. It doesn't capture every kind of gamer out there, but does show a variety of players.

The Guild is written by and stars Felicia Day. She is an actress with a long résumé, and has done a lot of work with Joss Whedon, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse, and the online special Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog. In fact, Joss Whedon stated that The Guild was one of the inspirations to make Dr. Horrible. Felicia is an avid World of Warcraft player, and decided to make The Guild, so that she could do something more productive with her hobby. While the game they play is more of a generic fantasy game, there is definitely a Warcraft influence to it. It was kept generic to avoid copyright issues, as well as not limit the audience to only WoW players.
Season 2 has just concluded. It has been announced that there will be a third season. The Guild is produced by Microsoft, and episodes are available for download on Xbox Live. Seasons 1 and 2 are also available on DVD.
The show can be viewed online at YouTube, or at The Guild's official website.
