Independence Day weekend is full of fun, fireworks, friends and ... food! Below are some low-cal and festive red, white and blue foods you can serve or bring to your July 4th cookout.

• Blue corn chips, tomato salsa and white corn.
• Cherry tomatoes and part-skim mozzarella cheese, drizzled with balsamic vinegar.
• Veggie plate with red bell peppers, cauliflower, beets, tomatoes, kalamata olives and scallion tops. Serve with hummus (make it extra white by using great northern beans instead of chickpeas) and/or light ranch dip. Click here for Ellie Krieger's great recipe for homemade ranch dressing. Omit the chives to leave out the green color in the dip.
• Potato salad made with a mix of white, red and blue/purple potatoes (they really do look blue). Peel the white potatoes but leave the skins on the red and blue ones. Click here for a light recipe.
• Festive ice pops. Fill popsicle molds with low-cal vanilla yogurt, pudding or lemonade. Drop in some blueberries and chopped strawberries and freeze.
• Low-fat vanilla ice cream or yogurt topped with raspberries and drizzled with a bit of blueberry syrup.
• Fruit plate with watermelon, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and sliced red apples. Serve with cubes of angel food cake.
