Take a walk outside. Turn off the television!

Lights out! Turn the lights out when you leave a room if you don't plan to return to the room within 15 minutes, if you are using fluorescent bulbs. If you are using incandescent lights, turn them out if you are going out of the room for more than 5 minutes.

Make sure the refrigerator door is closed tight. Check the seal by closing the door with a dollar bill in between the gasket and door. If the bill slips out, the seal is not tight.

Fresh air is actually good for us. Rather than keeping your home closed up tightly, open a door or window for fresh air for a few minutes each day, even in the winter.  The money you spend on the heat for the cracked window is well worth it! You will find that you are healthier, and will save money, as you will not need as many over the counter drugs for headaches, sinus attacks, etc.

Drink water, instead of soda. You will save money, and water is healthier than soda!

Plan meals for the week. Take the time to plan and budget your meals. You will be amazed how much money you will save. Make your own lunches instead of buying fast foods. Make sure you plan treats in, so you are not tempted to splurge on quick trips to the store for sugary desserts. Buying in season fresh fruits is better than buying cookies, cakes, ice cream. Make fun frozen treats with plain yogurt, and fresh fruit. Strawberries, or blueberries are a great choice.  Add a bit of peanut butter, and honey, and use your blender. Pour the mix into little cups, or an ice cube tray. Cover with plastic wrap, and freeze.

Turn off the tv, and take an evening walk with the family.

Share kid care with friends. Ask friends if they would care for your kids for a few hours, and offer to do the same for them, sometime. (Only if you know and trust each other, of course!)

Have a neighborhood dinner night. Do you have a friend who would like to have a night off from meal making? Would you also like a night off? Plan one night a week for each of you, to have the night off. If it is your night off, the friend makes double! You do the same for the friend on your cooking night. Agree on similar priced meals, so neither of you is over spending. This is a win win system!
