You have a digital camera, and the kids are home all summer.  Take advantage of the outdoors, and bring your kids, and camera for a walk each week. Take shots of plants before they begin to bloom. Take close up shots. The second week, find the same plant, and reshoot. Continue to do this each week, at least once, or maybe twice a week. Show the kids the photos in sequence, and keep a journal of the growth of the plants you have chosen to photograph! Great choices for this project: black eyed susans, mums, roses. Vegetable garden plants such as beans, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and squash are all fun to watch grow! The kids (and you, too) will be amazed to see the final journal of photos by the end of the summer. If you don't have a garden, ask a neighbor if you might photograph their plants.
