That's right! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or TMNT for short, turned 25 this year, and to celebrate they went on tour. Starting in their home city of New York back in April, the Turtles have been trekking across America and this weekend they'll be stopping in Phoenix.
The event is schedule to take place in Heritage Square at the Arizona Science Center, this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Their tour bus is a traveling museum sure to be filled with all things Ninja Turtles, including props and costumes from the movies and cartoons. The Turtles will be on hand for a meet-and-greet and photos, and, of course, there will be pizza. And the best part, the event is free!
TMNT was created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Starting as a satire of the best-selling comics at the time, the book caught on with fans, and soon the four amphibian brothers developed into fully rounded characters with a richly layered mythology. Shortly after making a wave in comics, they became a franchising legend, and it wasn't long before Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo and Raphael were starring in cartoons, movies, video games, their own toy line, and even a record album! .jpg)
The Turtles have had their ups and downs over the years, but they've earned a loyal fan base. With a second cartoon series on the air, new comics currently on the racks, a new video game being released this fall and even talk of a sequel to their 2007 CGI hit movie, there seems to be no slowing them down. And this Saturday, they'll be hitting the valley of the sun. Cowabunga, Phoenix!
