This Friday, September 11th, its a block party nationwide as Americans come together to strengthen
and serve their communities in nearly 100 Green the Block events across the USA.
Green The Block is the new brainchild of "Green For All" and the "Hip Hop Caucus." The two groups also partnered with President Obama's "United We Serve" initiative for this National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11.
Green the Block is all about true grassroots organizing which is primarily done by schools, community groups and churches. Its also whatever a group wants to do as community service. In Florida, organic cooks will make an healthy meal for local firefighters, in gratitude, but also to educate the community on what good eating is.
High school students in Brooklyn, New York are making September 11 their day to green up their community through urban gardening.
Want to get involved wherever you are? Go online to http://service.greentheblock.net/ to find out what's happening near you. RSVP for a local event. It's good for the community and it can be good for you too. Perhaps most importantly, every participant becomes part of a national effort promoting equality and a sustainable future with opportunity for us all.
Community service is among the highest of American ideals.
On September 11th, join your community and honor the past by working together towards a greener, cleaner and better future.
