The Good:
The Federal Trade Commission has banned the automated solicitation of goods and services over the telephone. The ban is enforced for both consumers who have signed up for the do-not-call-list and those who haven’t.
The Bad:
Non-automated telemarketing has not been completely banned – you still need to sign up for the do-not-call-lists in order to be freed of the most telemarketing calls as possible. However, even with the ban on automated solicitations and signing up for a federal or state list, you will still receive automated and non-automated calls. Legal calls will be made from: debt collectors, informational calls on delivery times, political calls, and charities.
A major win for the consumer advocates as more and more dinners go uninterrupted. Also, a major loss for those marketers who found this ineffective medium, somehow effective in today’s (rightfully so) privacy paranoid society.
