On June 25, 2009, at approximately 6:26 PM ET, CNN stated that CBS News and the Los Angeles Times had reported that pop superstar Michael Jackson died at age 50 at UCLA Medical Center, after suffering a cardiac arrest earlier in the day.

Jackson was at home at his mansion in Holmby Hills, CA, when a family member contacted 911 to report that Jackson had collapsed. Paramedics arrived and repeatedly attempted to revive Jackson on the way to UCLA without success. Jackson was admitted to UCLA Medical Center where he fell into a coma before death. Jackson was preparing to begin a series of fifty concerts in London at the time of his demise.

Michael Jackson's music video "Thriller" was produced in 1983. At the time, it was the most expensive music video ever produced, at a cost of $500,000. In 2006, the Guinness Book of World Records listed Thriller as the most successful music video of all time. In 1984, it won the MTV Video Music Awards for Best Overall Performance in a Video, Best Choreography and Viewer's Choice. In 1985, Thriller won the Grammy Award for Best Video, Long Form. In addition to this, in 1999 Thriller was ranked #1 in MTV's countdown of the 100 Greatest Music Videos ever made.

Michael Jackson recorded nearly forty music videos in his career, including the smash hits, “Billie Jean”, “Beat It”, “Bad” and “Black or White”.
