Is the stress of constant media attention and overwork getting to Twilight star Robert Pattinson? Sources on the set of his new movie seem to think so.
Rob, 23, has been in New York City since June, shooting his upcoming film, Remember Me. On July 6, Pattinson was photographed on Manhattan's Upper East Side filming at the prestigious Regis High School, where hordes of Rob's female fans gathered hoping to catch a glimpse of the handsome actor.
Sources say the pressures of a hectic shooting schedule, around-the-clock press attention and throngs of fans descending on the set every day has been too much for the 6'1" British hunk.
"[Rob's] so skinny and stressed," an unnamed source told the NY Daily News. "Everyone on set is worried about him. Robert doesn’t understand why everyone is going so crazy over him. He’s embarrassed by the way girls throw themselves at him. The girls here are stalking him."
Pattinson skyrocketed to overnight A-list status last November following his star-making turn as the dashing Edward Cullen in the blockbuster vampire romance Twilight. Since then, Rob has kept up an exhausting schedule between Twilight promotional tours and filming its sequel, New Moon (on location in Vancouver and Italy).
After Pattinson finished shooting his scenes for New Moon in late May, he immediately began working on his next project, Remember Me. While most actors savor the sudden fame and fortune a hit movie can bring, sources say Rob's global superstar status has been more of a burden than a blessing. "He stayed in two different hotels [in NYC] over the course of four days just to try to escape the fans who were following him," says a source. "He’s being advised by security not to encourage the crowd, so he doesn’t even look up anymore.”
Twilight, which has raked in a staggering $382 million worldwide since its Nov. 21 U.S. release, will keep Rob super-busy until at least 2010. Ironically, Pattinson, who has described himself as a loner, has previously stated he likes to maintain a quiet and private personal life. "I would rather stay at home doing some creative than [go out]," he said.
New Moon opens in theaters Nov. 20.
