What happened to Courtney Love?? Love, 44, was photographed in New York June 22 looking shockingly thin and emaciated almost beyond recognition.
Courtney, the widow of the late Kurt Cobain of the grunge band Nirvana, has previously battled weight issues and drug addiction. She once confessed to having taken heroin while pregnant with her and Kurt's daughter, Frances Bean, now 16.
Love, whose weight has fluctuated in recent years, declared in 2007 that she had "taken care of my eating disorder." The previous year, Love began aggressively dieting to lose some weight she had gained after kicking her drug addiction. Subsisting on a strict diet of protein shakes, fish and vegetables, Love successfully lost 52 lbs.
Since then, Courtney's weight has fluctuated from slightly underweight to normal, but her bony arms and toothpick-thin legs during her recent New York visit has renewed speculation that the Hole singer is battling an eating disorder (or worse).
Tellingly, Love revealed in the January issue of Elle magazine that, "If I could get a gastric band I would! I've heard it's a lot of vomiting and a pain in the *ss, but it's still easier than a diet."
Courtney even admitted she had seen a Hollywood doctor about getting the procedure done but he refused. "I might have been fat, but I wasn't that fat," Love recalls. "I tried lipo on my stomach after that. It was horrible and it didn't work."
Meanwhile, Courtney, who is currently working on Hole's comeback album, is being sued by American Express. The credit card company, which filed papers in L.A. last month, alleges that Love had "failed and refused" to pay the debt on her gold credit card, totaling some $350,000.
