PA school district must throw out 6000 doses of swine flu

Pennsylvania's WFMZ.com 69 News announced today, November 3rd, that 6000 doses of swine flu vaccine must be thrown out because the temperature it was being stored at dropped below the recommended low range of 35 degrees.

With vaccine supplies already limited through out the country this is tragic news for Monroe County residents.  According to the report the Stroudsburg Area School District will have to wait until more vaccines are available. " As of yesterday, the health department says the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has allocated 964,100 doses of the swine flu vaccine to Pennsylvania"  per the report on wfmz.com.

Dan Berrett who writes for Pocono Record quoted Toleno, the district superintendent as saying, "'We are, needless to say, a little upset,' said a pained John Toleno, the district's superintendent. 'It happened. It's unfortunate....We have no idea why it happened,'(read more)"

According to the reports the vaccines are supposed to be kept between 35- 46 degrees and their refrigerators had dropped to 31 degrees.  Dan also quoted Stacy Kriedeman who spoke for the state health department as saying, "It's just not viable if it's not kept at the right temperature."
