If you’re going to the Flamingo area of Everglades National Park   during the year-end holidays, be prepared to “rough it.” You won’t be able to buy snacks for lunch or gas for your boat there.

To provide visitor services at Flamingo, park officials on December 23, 2008, awarded a new commercial services contract to Everglades National Park Boat Services (ENPBS), which already serves as the concessionaire in the park’s Gulf Coast area near Everglades City.

During the transition, some services at Flamingo will be disrupted, a park spokesperson warned.

The supply of food, drinks, and gifts at the Marina Store will be limited, and sales will be for cash only.

You can still rent a canoe at Flamingo, but all boat tours, skiff rentals, fuel, and sales of beer and wine will not be available until further notice.

For updated information, check the park’s Web site or call 305-242-7700.
