Albany is in the autumnal embrace of October, and we have metal befitting the season. As usual, Northern Lights offers up some heavy hitters. Today, on October 6th, Shadows Fall takes the stage with Five Finger Death Punch and 2 Cents. OTEP will also be there. A significant offering, but it doesn’t end there. On October 11th, 3 Inches of Blood is performing. With them will be Manic Ritual, Children, and Israfel. Bring your best orc-slaying gear. To round out the month, Skid Row plays Northern Lights on the 30th. Along side them will be local band Repression. Fans of old school metal should be pleased with both bands.
Humorless scenesters beware; Dethklok, of Adult Swim’s cartoon "Metalocalypse" comes to the Washington Avenue Armory, with Mastodon and Converge. These are big names, so get tickets now if you enjoy parody death metal, post-metal and grind, respectively.
Bogies in October is the place for local metal, as is its wont. The list is pending, of course, but on the 10th, Cipher, Damnation Alley, Planet Eaters and Hands Up play at 8 p.m. There is a heavy hardcore influence in these bands, but they are worthy nevertheless. If you’ve got a hood, put it up. The 24th is the annual New York Death Metal fest. Starting at 2 p.m., Blood Obsession, ReCreation, Left in Ruins, Black John Wayne, Shovelhead and Nothing all perform. Buckle up for that one. October 30th, the Bogies establishment finds itself with a fistful of Gods and Destroyers. If you haven’t learned anything about them, read up. And speaking of that band, they will also be playing in Saratoga Springs on Halloween. With them will be Kill All Betrayers, Accusations of the Insane and Alchemy of Time. All are loud and fast enough to wake the dead.
All and all, a decent harvest for the month.
