This week marks the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street , first broadcast on PBS on November 10, 1969. It's provided us with lots of great memories and some superlative rock and roll moments. Here are just five.

1. Smokey Robinson getting manhandled by the letter U
Who could forget this rewritten couplet to the tune of "You Really Got a Hold On Me"
"U stands for uptight—that's how I'm feeling
Being grabbed by a letter is unappealing…"

2. Stevie Wonder perfoming "Superstition" on Sesame Street.
Although he doesn't change the lyric in honor of a letter about to fall, he does
give a shout out to the place where the air is sweet at the end.

3. REM singing "Furry Happy Monsters"
This is a post Bill Berry appearance with a Muppet substituting for Kate Pierson.
Michael Stipe's mugging is priceless!

4. Feist singing 1,2,3, 4
Music fans may have already forgotten Feist but preschoolers probably still have
this song in heavy rotation.

5. Little Richard sings "Rubber Duckie"
This not only makes bathtime fun and smokes the Kermit version, but it makes by
big toe shoot up in my boot!
