There are 36 more days of summer reading left at the Lexington Public Library. Their 2009 program is "Be Creative @ The LPL" and there are events galore. The Summer Reading Program offers a prize of a new book to all children who complete the program during the months of June and July, plus the chance to enter drawings for additional prizes. The library offers reading logs for all ages: “wee readers,” “read-with-me” readers, readers, and teen readers.
Events have been organized at every library location to support the Be Creative theme. Children can attend programs in cartooning, music making, and all sorts of arts. Storytimes are still on the summer schedule, and an inexpensive and educational way to entertain a bored preschooler. Or, if there's a bored teen in your life, they can learn hip hop dances or join the Wii tournament.
Every branch has different events, so be sure to check the library's calendar! The Central library location has Monday Movie Musicals and live perfomances throughout the summer, as well as programs where teens can make keepsake boxes, journals, or tie dyed clothing. The Northside Branch has a lot of high tech programs this summer due to the new Digital Lab. Options range from learning to use Photoshop to editing videos and using iDvd. The Beaumont Branch has art programs for all ages, and several theater programs. These are just the highlights.
Many people think that summer reading programs are just for kids, but that's not the case at the Lexington Public Library. While there are programs for kids , there is also Adult Summer Reading Bingo. You can read or listen to items that fill in the different categories (like Biography, General Fiction, Magazine, Nonfiction), or you can attend various library programs. Available programs range from book clubs to talks on stress management (July 1, Eagle Creek), from veiwing classic horror movies (Tates Creek) to attending Family Trivia Night at your local branch. If you get a bingo, you'll be entered into a drawing for either a gift certificate for Joseph Beth, or an iPod Shuffle. There are also events for adults, from writing groups to silk flower arranging.
There are options for everyone this summer at the Lexington Public Library. Enjoy them.
