The summer movie season still has its hold on the video game releases this week, but there are a few other titles of interest. And with last week’s article about saving on new games, surely the opportunity to purchase one of the new titles will arise.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood- PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Published by Ubisoft
Bound in Blood is the prequel to the original Call of Juarez. Like the first installment, Bound in Blood has two main characters instead of one. Ray and Thomas are brothers; one specializes in long range weapons and the other prefers short range. They are on the run for their lives from the Confederate army and their journey takes them from Civil War Georgia all the way to Mexico. Like the last installment, this too will have the spaghetti western feel with comic relief and lots of bloodshed. The main improvement Bound in Blood has to offer is a wider scope of land to cross. The atmosphere is much more open, giving the player a greater feel for the vast freedom of the wild west.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince- Out on all systems and mediums. Published by Electronic Arts
Once again fans will have the opportunity to set off on an adventure with ‘the boy who lived.’ Only this time there should be a lot more action and a lot less chores to do. The last installment of the Harry Potter games felt a lot more like the punishment being dealt out to Potter by Professor Umbridge than a fantasy world of fun and magic. Of course if the trailers for ‘Half Blood Prince’ give us any hint about the games premise, we may be playing a game more focused on teenage hormones that wizardly action.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs- Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, PC, PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360. Published by Activision
The newest addition to the Ice Age franchise should give gamers the same thing they got from previous titles, but with the added bonus of cooperative play. Graphics and voice work shouldn’t push an boundaries past the frontier of the movie and gameplay will be simple, but any kid fond of the film should have a great time playing through the game in an effort to prolong the CGI goodness.
Treasure World- Nintendo DS. Published by Aspyr Media
Treasure World looks to be quite the daring title for the Nintendo DS. The premise deals with alien like creatures that have crash landed on Earth and need your help to collect the stardust that will refuel their spacecraft. Simple enough, right? Wrong. In order to collect stardust, players must bring their Nintendo DS along with them to different Wi-Fi hot spots. Each hot spot will send out a different signal to the DS and each signal signature will endow players with different items. As a marketing ploy, it’s a brilliant idea. Seeing Nintendo DS systems all over the place is free advertising, but will the product work to hold gamers’ attention? Only time will tell. But if Animal Crossing has proven anything, it is that games based on collecting items can hold a players attention for years on end.
