Dragon Con may provide the game enthusiasts of the south with one glorious weekend of games, comics, dealer rooms, genre tracks and parties but for some people the year long wait for a fantasy world binge is just too long. Luckily, for people in the Atlanta area, there are other options. One of those options is MomoCon. Centered on analog gaming and anime, the convention will also offer old school gaming rooms that can be utilized for a retro gaming fix.
The compact size of MomoCon is reflected in the price. The main festival that occurs in March is free and the Summer Gaming Festival is nearly that with attendees paying a mere five bucks for entry; making this convention extremely easy on the wallet. In economic times such as this, the lower price of entry may help out gamers who simply do not have the funds to attend the extremely expensive Dragon Con. A whopping $100 at the gate is what a patron can expect to shell out for a full pass to Dragon Con’s weekend exploits and that doesn’t include the hotel room that is nearly mandatory if the attendee is interested in alcohol laden parties that take place till the wee hours of morning.
To top it all off, the game lineup for MomoCon is quite respectable. Fans of Steve Jackson will be happy to find out that not only will the popular Munchkin card game be featured, but other unannounced Jackson titles as well. Furthermore guest can also choose from Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, Paranoia and more. Though it is a younger convention, having only started up in 2005, it boasted an impressive 700+ guest turnout for its Atlanta premiere.
MomoCon will be held on the third floor of the Georgia Tech Student center. Mark your calendars for June 27th from 10am to 11pm. More information about the Summer Gaming Festival can be found on both myspace and facebook.
