Borderlands – PS3, XBOX 360: Published by 2K Games
Borderlands is part RPG, part sci-fi shooter, and all about the booty. Players create their own character and mount up with either an AI team, or a couple of buds, in order to loot their way across a dangerous mining planet. Aliens come in all shapes and sizes in this title and most of them aren’t exactly a pleasure to deal with. Players will need to level up and find the most powerful and accurate weapons available if they want to survive. Luckily the game has plenty of weapons to give up. With good reviews starting to trickle in, Borderlands may be the answer to a Left 4 Dead burnout’s problem.
Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo – Wii: Published by Namco Bandai Games America
Fans of the Dragon Ball Franchise will be happy to see a new addition to the story with this offering for the Nintendo Wii. The rest of us probably won’t care.
Fifa Soccer 10 – PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, XBOX 360: Published by Electronic Arts.
Fifa Soccer 10 may very well be the best soccer game ever. With the exception of a few minor issues, critics are eating this game up. So gamers with a soft spot for the soccer ball should rush to stores and secure their copy of Fifa Soccer 10.
Hero’s Saga Laevatein Tactics – DS: Published by Aksys
Strategy RPG fans will have a handheld title to play around with this week due to the release of Hero’ Saga Laevatein Tactics. Though it’s a solid title, it’s not really up there with Final Fantasy Tactics or the Disgaea series. This game doesn’t seem to really excel in any one area, but it doesn’t suffer in any of them either. It’s simply a decent strategy title to add to a growing collection.
Lips – XBOX 360: Published by Microsoft
Though Karaoke Revolution generally leads off the pack as far as singing games are concerned, the system specific games are certainly a force to be reckoned with. Sony’s Singstar series is a must for the video game libraries of party throwers everywhere. The Lips series is Microsoft’s answer to Singstar, and with those awesome glow mics, who wouldn’t want to hop right into an embarrassing moment of vocal stylings that will probably end up on YouTube the next day courtesy of someone’s iPhone.
Marvel Super Hero Squad – DS, PS2, PS3, Wii: Published by THQ
It’s hard not to love the super hero concept. It’s even harder not to love it when it’s combined with a LEGO-like story mode and a Super Smash Brothers-esque battle mode. The characters are plentiful and cutesy, and the combination of the motion sensor movements should certainly help make the Wii ‘the’ system to own it on. So pledge allegiance to the good guys or suit up for the bad guys in Marvel Super Hero Squad.
WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 – DS, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, XBOX 360
Smackdown vs. Raw finally hits its stride with the 2010 release. Minor tweaks in visuals have made for a largely improved look of the game and controls remain relatively similar to past releases. One of the most impressive additions to this year’s release is the story creator. Players can decide exactly how the entire season is going to go. They get to choose the unions, the rivals and even the dialogue. Fans of Pro-Wrestling are going to have a lot to like with this release, and players who haven’t caught the fever may find themselves drawn in by the depth of options available.
