The nostalgic Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations, (CVO), Softail Springer is a one of a kind in the factory customs category.
The Granite and chrome treated, Screamin’ Eagle 110-cid (1800cc) Twin Cam 110B with the heavy breather intake, the six speed tranny, the wide 240 mm rear tire and fender, the classic Springer fork design and unique frame with a polished chrome swing arm, they all scream, "Cool!" Add a fully polished chrome cast aluminum oil tank, chrome slash-down staggered exhaust with dual mufflers and full length chrome heat shields, this custom gives a nice first impression.
The 2009 Harley CVO™ Softail® Springer comes with a whole host of premium components and accessories from the Centerline accessory collection. Grips, pegs, brake and shifter petals. The list of chrome accessories goes on with brake and clutch master cylinders, switch housing, voltage regulator, shift lever, debris deflector and belt guard.
The forward facing exposed Heavy Breather intake carries a special “110” tube emblem and chrome end cap. Front and rear brakes include Road Winder rotors and the calipers match the Granite engine treatment. The classic front end with the painted rigid fork and chromed spring components ride on a 18x3.5 Road Winder wheel and 130 mm tire. The four piston brake caliper with chrome forged mount adds to the bikes unique style.
The Seat is also custom with Buffalo inserts that are contrasted by embroidered flames and the CVO logo. Custom five gallon tank with a chromed center console and is topped with a spun aluminum face five-inch speedometer, a very nice look!
Other new components are Bullet mirrors with shortened stems, chrome-plated dipstick, fender struts and covers, fork inserts, swingarm pivot bolt covers, axle nut covers, tank emblems and wheel spacers. It's got the Bling!
The Screamin’ Eagle 110-cid is Harley-Davidsons largest-displacement engine, commercially produced. The high-performance V-Twin engine easily delivers 110 ft. lbs torque at around 3000 rpm. The engine is rigid mounted into a Softail frame, counter balanced and paired with the 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission. This creates a lower cruising rpm on the highway in 6th and an estimated 48.00 hwy / 34.00 city.
I had the opportunity to spend some quality time on the 2009 CVO Softail Springer and first thing I noticed, besides the remarkable torque, was the handling on corners with the Springer front end. It was far smoother than I'd remembered in the Springers of the bygone days. The stopping was almost effortless. The ride was comfortable and I could easily do a road trip in the deep dished leather seat. The forward controls were a perfect, not to far forward to where I'd struggle to shift and break, just prefect.
I rode around the Monterey area, cruised through Cannery Row basking in all the attention this bike was drawing. Then up the coast on highway 1 to Seaside and back. Riding the freeway on the big custom, it just purred in 6th gear as the rpm dropped to around 2,300 rpm and just shy of a speeding ticket. The CVO Springer Softail, ain't just a pretty face!
