The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will get another break from Big Eastconference play by taking on another non-conference opponent with a losing record. They may not be going to boot camp, but the Scarlet Knights will travel to West Point, NY for a New York metropolitan matchup this Friday against the Army Black Knights.
Rutgers has a five-game winning streak against Army in the schools' lifetime series. Both schools played each other last season in Piscataway where Rutgers dominated the game with a 30-3 win. The win sealed Rutgers their fourth consecutive bowl bid.
Rutgers last played Army in West Point, NY two seasons ago where former running back and Heisman hopeful Ray Rice rushed for a school-record 243 yards with two touchdowns. Rutgers won the game 41-6, giving Army their worst lost of the season.
Rutgers quarterback Tom Savage had a mediocre performance in last week's game against Pittsburgh. But the true freshman will get another chance to shine on prime time television with Friday's game airing on ESPN2 at 8.
Savage told reporters during Monday's practice that he must improve on throwing the ball more accurate in the pocket and making his throws quicker.
"Sometimes [the throws] don't break as cleanly as you open," Savage said. "You just gotta wait and make the throws. That's part of being a quarterback."
Rutgers will resume back to their conference matchups on Oct. 31 against Connecticut in Hartford, CT. Their next home game in Piscataway is scheduled on Nov. 12 against South Florida.
