Dungeon Divas – A night out with the gamer girls
Every Wednesday night, a group of gamer girls called the Dungeon Divas meet at Guardian Games down in the warehouse district of SE Portland. Tonight there is a respectable gathering of 5 divas and one divo with 3 hangers on observing. The core group has been together almost 2 years now, and consists of 7 women and one man.

When you hear about Dungeon Divas you think gamer girls but this group, unlike so many all male groups, do not discriminate, thus the 1 divo that is a welcome part of the group. They are still playing Dungeons and Dragons 3.5, but 3.5 is a great system and the books are now available cheaper than ever.
They take over a large table in the back of the huge, welcoming store to continue their weekly adventures. Along with the standard vinyl map used by the majority of gaming groups now adays, when combat began the DM, Michelle, pulled out a stand up metal board with all the characters and opponents listed. Following initiative and knowing when you are going has never been easier. Each character has a token with their name on which their current initiative is written in non permanent ink. From here they are placed in order from highest to lowest init and a convenient list across the top allows you to also see what round you are on. So with two little magnets everyone DM and players alike can keep tabs on who's turn it is as well as what round they are in and what they need to prepare for.
All experience levels are welcome from beginner to experienced and they are a very welcoming group. They seem pretty full right now, with the 6 active players plus the DM, but with the observers, I suspect that they would happily create a second group if enough people wanted to join.
The best things about the Divas is that not only are they a great gaming group, but like the best gaming groups they are

friends, and it shows. Watching them tease each other, and maneuver through what ever their DM may throw at them is a joy, which says a lot. Because let's be honest, anyone that has ever sat and watched a RPG knows it's boring as Hades. Not so with the Divas. Michelle is well prepared and very animated, both keeping everyone's attention and the group entertained.
All in all, the Dungeon Divas & Divo are an excellent example of what a gamer girl group can be, and what so many groups, regardless of gender, work hard to try to achieve.
