A few quick-hitters on the team as we await Saturday’s game down in Waco:

  • If Heisman Trophy-caliber receiver Jeremy Maclin is to prove he’s man enough to make the leap to the NFL next spring, he’ll likely have to ditch the stuffed animals.
  • The St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Bryan Burwell gives every reason under the sun why Gary Pinkel would be wise not to return to his former stomping grounds in Seattle to succeed Tyrone Willingham as the head coach of the Washington Huskies.
  • Kathleen Nelson, also of the St. Louis P-D, explains that Mizzou wideout Denario Alexander is paying extra special attention to Saturday’s game against Baylor, when he’ll be competing against his longtime friend and former high school teammate, Bears running back Jeremy Sanders.
  • Welcomed news: The Kansas City Star reports that Fox Sports Midwest/Kansas City will feature the Mizzou/Baylor game--which is not televised live--on its Big 12 No Huddle program. The replay of the game will air twice on Monday (noon and 9 p.m.) and then again at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
  • Lo and behold, Tiger defensive end Brian Coulter, who had a breakout game last week spelling the injured Tommy Chavis, will get the chance to terrorize his distant cousin--Baylor QB Robert Griffin. Upon learning that he’ll get the chance to tackle a family member, Coulter said, “I’m looking forward to meeting him. I hope the media gets a really good picture of me sacking him so he can have something to hang up on his wall.”

  • If you simply can’t wait to start evaluating the X and O’s of Baylor’s offense and defense, Power Mizzou has got you covered with a preview of each.
  • And since it’s never too early to discuss Missouri basketball--which gets underway Nov. 15 against those scrappy Panthers of Prairie View A&M--we take a look at what went down at Wednesday night's annual Black and Gold Game, including a jawdropping performance by a certain freshman guard named Marcus Denmon
