The Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association and Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation honor Detroit Deputy Mayor Saul A. Green this evening at the Doubletree Guest Suites Fort Shelby in Detroit, where he will receive the Dennis W. Archer Public Service Award.
Throughout his career Saul Green has displayed impressive legal skills, an innate sense of fairness and ethics and a deep commitment to the public good. As United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, he established an unprecedented partnership between law enforcement and the community by tackling difficult and divisive issues, like hate crimes and racial profiling.
Throughout his 30-year career in federal, state and county law positions, he has brought both insight and innovation to some of the important and perplexing problems government undertakes on behalf of its citizens.
As a private attorney with Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, he continued to practice for the public good until his appointment to the office of Deputy Mayor of Detroit. He has received numerous awards and accolades including the University of Michigan Alumni Association's Distinguished Service Award, the Damon J. Keith Community Spirit Award, the State Bar of Michigan's Frank J. Kelley Distinguished Public Servant Award and Champion of Justice Award. In 2007, Michigan Lawyers Weekly honored him as one of its "Lawyers of the Year."
