Bourbon is a type of American whiskey; an alcoholic beverage distilled from fermented grain.

Strict laws are in place to govern what a Bourbon must be to receive the label of Bourbon. At least 51 percent of the grain used to make the whiskey must be corn. The whiskey must be aged for a minimum of two years in a new white oak barrel that has been charred. When bottled, nothing can be added to enhance the flavor or color. Bourbon cannot be distilled to more than 80 percent alcohol by volume.

While Bourbon can be produced anywhere in the United States, most brands are made in Kentucky and takes its name from Bourbon County, Kentucky.
