Dawn Stephens with her fruit pot.

On Saturday, June 20, at 2:00 pm, at the Barnes & Noble in MacArthur center, local author Dawn Stephens will read and sign her new picture book, "The Little Pot." This Christian allegory teaches children to be patient as they wait to find out the plan for their lives. Stephens is also the illustrator of "The Little Pot." Meeting the actual, live person who wrote the book they're holding in their hands can take a lot of the mystery out of the writing and publishing process. Suddenly instead of just words on the page, a book becomes the product of a live human being, who they can talk to and pepper with questions. Warning: meeting authors may inspire your child to write his or her own books, and there's no guarantee they won't be allegories meant to teach parents to give out ice cream for breakfast.

After the reading and signing, the kids can make their own little pot to take home, to further reinforce the lesson and solidify the memory for them. Come with an open mind, leave with a signed copy of "The Little Pot" and a home for your basil.

For more info: You can hear Dawn Stephens talking to Book Bites Radio about her story, or see the book trailer. Then check out the author's web site here.
