The San Francisco Fall Antiques Show, benefiting Enterprise for High School Students, opened on October 28 with a hugely successful Preview Party Benefit Gala, hosted by Honorary Chairs Ambassador and Mrs. Hesham Elnakib, Chair Michele Goss, and Enterprise Board Chair K.C. Lynch. Goss is on the board of directors for Enterprise for High School Students and has admirably chaired The San Francisco Fall Antiques Show for several years.
Approximately 2,750 Preview Party guests were the first to view the antiques and art showcased by approximately 65 dealers from the United States and Europe, while enjoying a lavish cocktail buffet catered by McCall Associates. Approximately three dozen student members of Enterprise for High School Students, the benefiting organization, were hired to assist the catering staff at the Preview Party, one of the most prestigious social events in San Francisco.
Inspired by the “Tut” exhibition at the FAMSF, The 2009 San Francisco Fall Antiques Show chose the theme Nile Style on the Bay: Egyptomania, coordinated under the direction of Lisa Podos. Upon entering the Show, Preview Party guests were greeted by students dressed in Egyptian costumes against a background of displays by San Francisco designers featuring Egyptian-inspired settings, including: the living room by Cheryl DuCote; the dining room by Grant K. Gibson; the library by Stephen Sutro; and a garden, inspired by Nefertiti’s Garden, designed by Elizabeth Everdell. Suzanne Tucker, the active Designers Circle Chair, and Jay Jeffers, EHSS Board member, were responsible for these evocative vignettes.
Stunning examples of Egyptian artifacts and Egyptian Revival design were also displayed in the special Exhibition, this year moved to the center of the show shown in attention-grabbing custom glass cases. Maria Santangelo, Special Projects Curator in the Department of European Decorative Arts and Sculpture at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, was curator of the exhibition, featuring loans by high profile private collectors and local musuems. Prominent architect Andrew Skurman was the Creative Director, who oversaw the entire striking look of the show.
