This Wednesday, October 14th at Fratelli Lyon, Julie Mushett and Aniece Meinhold will be hosting Italy106: Tuscany. Italy106: Tuscany, is the last course to the six week wine workshop, Passport Through Italy. Each class has been an educational awakening for wine enthusiasts all over South Florida. Faithfully meeting every Wednesday, guests learned about the regions of Italy, tasted the local wines, and discovered how to pair wine with food.
Tuscany is beyond Chianti Classico in the world of wine today. Not only are the classic Brunello di Montalcino wines getting world-class recognition, the Tuscan wines are becoming the leading wines of the world. The class will start with a classic Tuscan white wine, Vernaccia di San Gimignano by Mormoraia. After the white, the next five wines will be all red with a comparison of Morellino di Scansano by Castello Romitorio to a Chianti Classico by Selvole. The next set of wines will be a Sant Antimo Rosso by Castello Romitorio from Montalcino compared to a Brunello di Montalcino from Canalicchio di Sopra. The last wine to conclude the course will be an inky Bolgheri Rosso a.k.a. Super Tuscan, Volpolo by Sapaio made up of International varietals. Each wine will be paired with Tuscan dishes and one should not be surprised if Chef Alex Pinero is able to track down a wild boar for the Brunello.
The final celebration dinner for all the graduates of the Passport Through Italy Workshop and anybody else that loves food and wine will be held Wednesday, October 21st. Guests will indulge in a multi-course dinner with 8 of Italy's finest wines made by the finest producers in a competing format. For three of the courses, two wines from different regions will stand up to the other, everyone will form their own opinion, after all, wine is very personal.
