Every morning when we wake up and he calls me by my pet name, I’m reminded of the love between us. No, I wouldn’t dare share with you what that pet name is. And honestly, it’s just a word I made up. You won’t find it in any dictionary. But it evolved into what is now our pet name for each other.

A pet name can be important because it’s something that only you and your loved one share.  It can represent your little secret world that has the "Keep Out" sign posted on it. In my case, straight from the horse’s mouth, when my boyfriend calls me by that name, he’s really saying “I love you”.

When I’m called by my pet name, or the many variations of it that have evolved since we first started using it, it’s a way of reassuring me that all is well with the relationship. In fact, on the rare occasion when my boyfriend calls me “Jenna”, I immediately think, “uh oh, what’d I do?”!

Using a pet name is a sweet sentiment, no matter how silly, weird or abstract the name is.  So, shnooky poo, in between calling your loved one by their given name, give a pet name a try and see if you can stand the sweetness.

Note: Shnooky poo is for literary use only and is NOT, I repeat, NOT my pet name  :)
