Despite weak economy, celebrities like Sean "Diddy" Combs plan to party at Super Bowl weekend

Based in part upon an AP release - After hitting last week’s inaugural balls in Washington, D.C., some A-list celebrities are moving the festivities to Tampa Bay for a rocking weekend of Super Bowl mayhem.

Recognizable celebrities bring welcome attention to the less sports worthy aspects of the game. Although some well-established soirees folded due to the recession, the expected celebrity deluge includes such notables as Ashton Kutcher, Lindsay Lohan, Snoop Dogg, and Kevin Dillon. Rappers Sean “Diddy” Combs, T-Pain, and Nelly also are scheduled to appear at Saturday night gigs for the party like there’s no tomorrow crowd. Foul language aside, Bad Boy Records just released this incentive for the first fifty arrivals.

Some celebrity gatherings are invite only, while others like Maxim magazine’s Super Bowl bash, ESPN magazine’s extravaganza, and the annual “Leather and Laces” blowout, hosted by hotties Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra, are practically guaranteed to generate buzz. I wouldn’t be surprised if McCarthy showed up with boyfriend Jim Carey on her arm. No telling who might step in as man candy for the spotlight-driven Ms. Electra.

Not all celebrities have bought into the infectious “scene and be seen” mentality. Actor and musician Kevin Costner is lending his star power to the annual “Saturday Night Spectacular,” a star-studded event benefiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant's charitable foundation. Proceeds will fund causes in honor of Bryant’s 3-month old son who died mysteriously in his sleep last September.

“It’s clearly not the need for attention. I’ve had enough of that for a lifetime,” Costner chuckled during a telephone interview. “It’s no fun being a celebrity. I’d rather be a performer. I’d rather sing for my supper.”
