The main problem with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox recent four game losing streak was the bats. For some reason the bats went ice cold, scoring just five runs in the four games. On Thursday night, the bats finally woke up behind the lead of all-star Eric Young Jr.
Young had a career game for the Sky Sox and led them to a 9-3 victory over the Salt Lake Bees. Facing pitcher Sean O'Sullivan, Young hit the second pitch of the game out of the park to give the Sky Sox the early 1-0 lead. In the second inning he followed it up with his second home run of the game, this time a three-run blast, that put the Sky Sox up 4-0. Young finished the night 4-4, with four runs scored, the two home runs (5), a triple (6), and a stolen base (48) , and five RBIs (31). Jonathan Herrera added a two-run homer (1), in the fourth inning, and the Bees could never catch up.
The lone bright spot for the Bees was Sean Rodriguez hitting his league leading 22nd home run of the season. O'Sullivan (5-3) was roughed up by the Sky Sox for five hits, six runs and two walks in a mere 3.2 innings of work.
Esmil Rogers (1-0) got the win in his Sky Sox debut, giving up nine hits, and three runs in six innings, while striking out five.
The two teams split the first two of the five game series, with game three coming tonight. Dan Denham (6-4, 4.37) will take the mound for the Bees and face off against Alan Johnson (8-3, 5.70).
