Celebrities Ed Norton and Alanis Morissette recently ran the New York City Marathon, finishing with times that kept them from getting swept into the controversy about slow runners who are apparently shaming the sport of distance running. The median finish time for a male marathoner fell from 3:32 in 1980 to 4:16 in 2008. For women, the median finishing time fell from 4:16 to 4:43.
