Minneapolis is an amazing playground for sports and fitness. When I moved here from Los Angeles in the mid 1990's, people were astonished that I would move by choice to a colder climate and a "less fit" city. At the time, I was working to certify fitness instructors and personal trainers for work in health clubs. I had just run my first marathon, sans training, on a dare. In Los Angeles, this was impressive. "Wow, that's so amazing!" my wide-eyed so-cal admirers would say. In Minneapolis, if I mentioned the feat, the best I got was a dead pan stare and the inevitable "…so?...what was your time?..." I quickly learned that Minnesotans are a hearty crew; fit, strong and athletic. Over the past 15 years I have learned why. This is a city built for fun. There is a workout around every corner, in the gym and out on the street, for beginners, veterans, solo athletes and groups.
So dust off your tracksuit, grab your pals and prepare to sweat. Check back often because I love to post. In the meantime, exercise your keypad and speak up! Is there a fitter city than ours?
