Amazon has reduced the price of the most popular Kindle model to $299 from $359. This cut in price reflects competition in the wireless electronic reader market.

The Kindle holds more than 1,500 electronic books, or ebooks, and operates on the 3G wireless network, which allows users to download books in 60 seconds or less. The Kindle is one-third inch thick, weighs 10.2 ounces, and has an improved paper-quality image on a six-inch display screen.

The larger model, the Kindle DX, sells for $489.
